In December of last year, my brother told me has was going to compete in an Ironman competition… I was like, “Whoa!!” He has never competed or trained for anything like this in his life. 11 months later, he is on the eve of The Iroman Arizona race in Tempe, AZ (sponsered by Ford coincindently)… He’s put in 11 months of training at least twice a day for upwards of 6 hours each day, 6 days a week. Let me put this race into perspective for you- this is a 2.4 mile swim/ 112 mile bike/ 26.2 mile run. I haven’t run 26 miles in my life! LOL!
The bike alone is like going to from Regina to Saskatoon, and the race will take him about 11- 13 hours to complete without stopping. I have never seen him in my life be as determined to complete an outsanding accomplishment. He has done a lot that has made me very proud of him, and this is just another example of what someone can do when they decided to do it. I spoke to him briefly on the phone today and wished him luck to have a good race, and do his best. I had a bit of an emotional moment shortly after we were off of the phone.. I guess just being a proud big brother.
Jeff is a great brother, and has made me very happy having been able to set big goals and kick them square in the teeth. I couldn’t be happier for him, even if he never competes in another crazy race like this again! I’ll be checking in atwww.ironmanlive.com all day to see how he is doing and cheering him on this Sunday via live internet feed. Set your goals high, without them you’ll just be ordinary!
